My Obsession With All Things "Ordinary"

October 15, 2017

I will be the first to admit that my logic when it comes to skincare is ass backwards. I am the girl who will spend $50 on a eyeshadow palette but cringes at the thought of spending $15 on a skincare product. It makes no sense! It wasn’t until my skin condition worsened that I realized that I had to do better. I wanted to find a good quality skincare line that wouldn’t break my bank. I searched at Sephora, Ulta, Target.. hell, I even tried Walmart! I couldn’t find a good skincare system anywhere! Until…Beautylish! I had shopped on their site a long time ago, but the app had been stagnant on my phone for months. I decided to check out what they had to offer. I ran across a brand by the name of “The Ordinary.” The name and visuals immediately peaked my interest. Everything was so clean and minimal! Something this modern had to be expensive, I thought. I was overjoyed when I saw that none of their products exceeded $20! My frugal prayers had been answered!

The Ordinary has tons of products in their line. They cater to people with sensitive skin, mature skin, hyperpigmentated skin.. whatever your condition is they have a remedy for it. Personally, I was looking for something moisturizing and that would lighten my dark spots. The prices were so reasonable that I was able to concoct both a morning and a nighttime routine for under $100!

My morning routine consists of:

  1. The Ordinary. “Buffet.”

    • Why I love it: This serum packs a mighty punch. It has all sorts of good shit in it that aids in skin cell turnover which will, in turn, fade dark spots! The solution also hydrates skin which is exactly what I need in this Arizona heat!

  2. The Ordinary. High-Adherence Silicone Primer (if I’m wearing makeup).

    • Why I love it: Having your makeup melt off in Arizona is truly inevitable. I’ve tried other primers that only made my face look like an oil slick by the end of the day. This primer left my makeup looking flawless for hours on end!

My nighttime routine consists of:

  1. The Ordinary. AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

    • One of my main skincare goals is to get rid of my hyper pigmentation. I can not afford to get chemical peels monthly so I was looking for something that I could do at home without burning my skin off. This product is super easy to use and a little goes a long way. I instantly felt the results and my skin was visibly more radiant after a few uses.

  2. The Ordinary. Gycolic Acid Toning Solution

    • This toner does exactly what it’s supposed to do.. TONE! Over time I noticed that my skin looked more even and my pores shrunk. The product stings a little upon initial application, but that just tells me that it’s working.

  3. The Ordinary. 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

  • Now don’t freak out.. this oil will not leave you looking greasy. I love it because it does the exact opposite. It absorbs super quick and leaves my skin feeling perfectly moisturized.

  1. The Ordinary. Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG

    • Allergies and genetics gave me the worst under eye puffiness. This solution greatly reduced the appearance of my under eye bags in a matter of weeks. I finally don’t look as tired as I truly am anymore!

Total cost of these products? $52.10!

If I can manage to spend that without feeling nauseous, anyone can. This amazing company has even moved on to making foundations! I have not been able to get my hands on my particular shade yet, but I will certainly give my two cents as soon as I do! Have you tried any of these products? What were your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!
