Finding Your Girl Gang | A Guide To Finding Friends Online

February 13, 2019

Sure, having a bae is nice and all but every girl needs her solid group of girlfriends. When work and home own all of your time finding new friends can be one of the hardest things to do. Thankfully there are resources that can help with this endeavor and I will be sharing them with you here. Here are four tried and true ways to make new friends just in time for Galentine's Day.

Hey! VINA: One day I was at home lonely AF, so I decided to hop on Apple Applications to see if there were any apps where women could meet other local women for friendships. After a little perusing I came across Hey! Vina and I instantly downloaded. I built my profile (which is super cute may I add) and then started swiping. The app is very similar to Tinder where you swipe right to like and swipe left to disregard. I especially like Hey! Vina because of it’s filters and quizzes. This app really does everything to match you with the exact kind of friend you want. It also allows you to link your instagram feed to your profile so potential gal pals can get an inside glimpse into your life. Want to connect with multiple women in your area? Hey! Vina has you covered there, too. There is an option for you to create local events that other Vinas can join in on. I did this and it resulted in a super fun play date for myself and some other local mommas. So far on Hey! Vina I have made some truly solid friends. I live pretty far from the metropolis of my city and I was still able to find amazing friends that are close by. I’ve used both the free and subscription versions of Hey! Vina. Honestly, you can’t go wrong either way. Paying the monthly subscription gives you more access to who wants to meet you and it gives you the option to boost your page. For now, I’m okay going the free way, but if my need for a new gal pal gets intense I will certainly switch to a subscription. Check out Hey! Vina for yourself. You never know who’s waiting to be your new bestie!

Bumble : I used to think Bumble was another dating app. Boy was I wrong. The great thing about Bumble is you tell the app what your looking for. Whether it be a hook-up, a professional connection, or a new friend.. Bumble has options for it all. I went the friendly route and was instantly connected to tons of local women. I even reconnected with one of the first people I met when I moved to Phoenix. We’re going to happy hour this weekend, how cool is that?! Bumble is a little more limiting than other social apps. A lot of their cool features require payment or subscriptions, and the price point isn’t cheap. I find myself popping into this app every once and again, but I would for sure use it more if everything didn’t cost.

Facebook Groups: Facebook is an amazing (and free) place to make new friends. A simple group search could connect you to lots of like minded women who want to meet someone like you! I was fortunate enough to stumble upon an amazing group of women on Facebook and I’ve been hanging tight with them ever since. Some may call groups like this “cults” but I just see it as women encouraging and uplifting each other. That is what women are supposed to do, right?! No matter your interest I can almost guarantee that there is a group on Facebook that you would fit in. There are couponing groups, makeup lover groups, outdoor groups, mommy groups, literally everything! All you need to do is search for it. Some groups may ask you a few questions to get you know you, but there’s no harm in that. Give it a try!

Meetup: This is an oldie but goodie. I remember using the Meet Up app religiously when I first moved to Phoenix to connect with people. This resource lets you search for groups according to your interests and hobbies. I was able to connect with fellow crochet-ers, women who wanted to lose weight, new mommy’s and likeminded young professionals all through this app. Meetup is especially great if you want to attend events. You can RSVP and see who else from the app will also be there. No more going out by yourself! Meetup itself is 100% free, but some groups may require dues. Create your free profile today and see what’s going on in your area, or even better, create your own group and attract your perfect tribe!

We live in an age where we are all connected. Your new best friend may be right around the corner and you don’t even know it. I hope one (or more) of these apps helps you find your new bestie. Have you found any success with finding friends online? Let me know in the comments!
